The 2 oceans marathon and the Spar ladies race is over! The 2 oceans marathon was held on the 7th of April and the weather did not play along as it was windy and rainny. We had a successful setup with all the fences around the coarse although the wind and rain was a bit of a problem . Nothing that we could not handle! We had to deal with 20,000 plus runners-amazing- this race is getting bigger every year and this was the first rainny and windy race in the last six years.Like all the other races over the last couple of years Jack Lukke planned and controlled it perfectly-well done Jack!
The Spar ladies race was held on the 15 th of April and boy was this a thriller. For the second week in a row the rain and wind was a factor. This was a new coarse and had a some problems of its own. This is another race that is growing by the year and was very close to 20 000 female runners, yes there was some male runners that tried to look like girls....! The race setup was mainly controlled by Frikkie Kotze, well done mate! and yes without this man there could easily have been chaos. And by the way I have never seen so many women at one place together in my life-is this a record? We now await the Cape Town marathon and hope that the weather will play along. Chow untill the next one!

2 oceans marathon 7th April 2012
Yes, it this time of the year again-the most beautiful race in the world and the runners are seeing two different oceans in one day!
The race day is on the 7th of April and the route has changed from last year and this should be fun for us doing the setup along the route. We will be busy from 03h00 in the morning making sure that some areas on the route is safe setting up temporary fences on strategic points and we will be the last ones leaving -long after the race is finished. It is very sad to say that the main role players in such big events are always the forgotten ones-sad is it not? But we do it for the love of the sport and it is the one day that you don't have to take any crap from any one , then I am the traffic officer, the race marshal and the whatever.
The race has grown over the years and might be even be bigger this year with a lot international runners coming from all over the world and we might even see the Russian twins again they are just awesome! The man in charge of this race,Jack Lukker, A very well organized man and he had every thing in place months before the time and he is doing this for years ,well done Jack. There is just about a month left before the race and we have a lot of things to do so I cant sit and chat with you, there is work to be done.
See you at the race.!

The Spar Ladies 10km race Sunday 15th of April 2012 Cape Town
It is this time of the year where all the ladies are preparing for the Spar ladies 10km race which will be held on the 15th of April at the Green Point common fields. The first race took place in Durban about 12 years ago and got going in Pretoria and Cape Town etc.Spar's involvement is amazing and I truely hope this will continue for a very long time. I am very fortunate to be involved over the last couple of years- my company supplied the temporary fences for this event. Some of my family and friends took part over the last couple of years and I hope they will continue supporting the Spar race or maybe they only ran for the goodie bag-which was full of goodies worth a fortune i would say.
Rene Kalmer ran a great race last year and hopefully she will win again this year. It is amazing seeing all those ladies supporting this race and I will tell you the Cape Town race is is growing rapidly and I hope that it could become the biggest race in Africa.
I am a spectator and I support all athletics/sport events through out the country and I will serve them as long as I can-go girls go!!!!!

Auschwitz
Some years ago my dear brother in law took us on a field tour to a placed name Auschwitz which I never heard of in my life.As we walked through the gates I red arbeit macht frei , huge letters over the gates. We had a tour guide and it was amazing what she told us about this consentration camp.I have never seen so much human hair in one place.I dont want to go into detail it will take hours to tel but one thing is a fact more than a million people died here and it is not a way that I want to see my enemy die. It was schocking!!
We then went to the Birkenau camp-huge! As I went into the camp we followed the railway line to where the Jews got out of the trains. The Germans took the Jews, sorted them out into strong workers and the others were told that they had to go take a shower and was then taken to the gas chambers. They were then gassed and then cremated.
As I walked the grounds of this terrible place your mind wonders of and you try to place yourself into those who died there. It must have been horrific.Imagine the screams that game from gas chambers.
I salute the people who died there and those who made it. I hope I made you aware of a tragic piece of history and you can read much more on the Auschwitz site .

A quicky-blue Monday
I have this habit of not switching on the lights -walk in the dark, you know your house.I heard my dogs barking and went to check things out. The next moment I crash on my grandson's scate board and fell with my head on the ground scating into the sliding door.I am not a small guy and can fall a dent into any floor.Got up and went to the bath room to check out the damages to my face, huge knob on the forehead and a nose that was bleeding.
Next moment i felt a pain in my foot-my grand son left a stanley knife next to the basin which I knocked of.Now there was blood everywhere-fixed the foot up and went to sit in my favourate chair and again in the dark.I thought that I would treat myself to a nice cup of tea and a slice of toast.I slid the bread into the toaster and switched it on-one big bang and no eyebrows.I switched the kitchen lights on and the cat went nuts and attacked me on the leg .I let go of the tea and toast business and decided to go to bed-I sat down on the bed........which I moved away earlier in the day.

warsawa/Berlin
A couple of years back I went to Poland to visit my family. At first I found it strange that most of the people did not speak english but in time got used to it.The most difficult thing was to travel on your own.I am a coffee drinker and was on my way to a shopping mall with the family and while they did some shopping I sat down at a coffee shop and ordered my kawa, sorry if the spelling's not correct, which was very very strong. The polish dont drink milk like we do-just a little bit of cream as big as your thumb's nail.I then immediately told the waiter in Afrikaans to bring me milk and I forgot about her.Next thing here she was with more milk-I found out that milk was pronounced the same way as in Afrikaans.Amazing I thought. When I tipped the young lady she refused to accept the tip-they dont get tipped in poland! She took it anyway and hid it very fast.I fell in love with Poland and went back again.
The wive and I decided to take a trip to Berlin and we landed on the train from Moscow .The conductor came around and not a sole could speak english! We showed him our tickets and we spoke to eash other with no success.
Just before Berlin the train stopped and the customs crew came around and they checked everyones passports-they stopped at us and all I could understand was Afrique du sud and they laughed at us and we laughed back. The one person then said that he thought that there was only black people in Africa.

Dont believe anything
I heard this story many years ago in a mining village in the north west province and i told it to some of my friends.......
It is known that miners work long hours underground and that they sometimes work a lot off overtime. As we went down the shaft one day ,which was one of the deepest mines anyway 3km down., i was approached by one of the guys and he had a story for me.
A miner was told that his wive had a affair and when he was on night shift she would slip out of the house and meet her lover somewhere else.Week after week his mates told him that story. He decided to check this out and went back to his house one night and waited outside .Then she came out ran in the dark to another house opened the door and went inside. At this time the miner was so furious grabbed his sambok and stormed into the house opened the bedroom door and gave his wive the beating of her life.
The miner went back to work and went home after his shift like nothing happened. His wive was still sleeping when he arrived and tip toed to he kitchen .Next moment the wive walked past him without a scratch on her!!
Don't believe anything you are told.!!

3rd test what a end on day four!!
When we arrived at Newlands this morning round about 06h00 we wondered if Sri Lanka could hold another day.We went on setting up our fences, closing the roads and soon it was time to look for breakfast.I wondered around the grounds and soon the game was on its way .At first nothing happened ,then the magic started and on regular interval wickets fell.
At three o'clock we cleared the street infront of the staduim removing all the fencing and the crowd made some serious noises urging me to even more to speed up so that i can watch the last overs on tv, but when i got home i was lucky enough to see the last ball bowled The hero of the game was Jaques Kallis who played a super game but the hole team was brilliant and i think the whole country was behind them. Well done guys!!! And only now i can sit back, whatch the high lights and call up on Charles glass and the two of us will remain like that for a hour or so figuring whats next?

3rd test Proteas vs Sri Lanka at Newlands cricket grouds
It was a honour serving Newlands cricket grounds today and what a day it turned out to be!! Sunfoil gave out caps and photo cards of the players and went straight to work getting mine signed. My first signed card came from JP Duminy .Next target was Morne Morkel ,I thanked him for signing my card and his reply was plesier oom.
As the Sri Lanka players went to the nets they got the traditional Heyns spell and it was all in the spirit of the game.I went to the Pavilion and found my mates from the aussie game there and predicted same magic after lunch and what maigic it was!!We saw the real mr cricket at his best knocking 159 for the day! whow what magic it was.
After a long day's work at Newlands I eventually went home-a cold glass of castle beer was my destiny and all that's left now is to sit down and watch the high lights of the game and get myself ready for the next 4 days humbly serving Newlands cricket . chow.
