The Three Sisters, with flowering karoo fields, Northern Cape province

Three Sisters is a landmark near the junction of the N1 and N12 national routes in the Karoo National Park, about eighty kilometres to the northeast of Beaufort West. The area has become a popular stopping off place with the building of a Shell Ultra City there.

The Three Sisters gets its name from three clearly visible and almost identical dolerite-topped koppies (koppie is a small hill rising up from the African veld) in the vicinity, formed by the differential weathering of a dolerite sill.

The Karoo National Park has a wide variety of endemic wildlife. Many species have been relocated to their former ranges - such as black rhino and buffalo, as well as Cape mountain zebra. Over 20 breeding pairs of black eagle find sanctuary within the park.
